Sojourner Found Spherules
Years Ago
Images show thousands of
spherules as well as coral - more evidence
BACK
| I had heard that
the rock named "Yogi" was supposedly a type of coral, but could
not find the references to this. I located images of Yogi and began
to see what I could make of it.
(Later searching located this
link. I am not the first to see this pattern on the rock.)
Here is a very good color
composite image of the rock "Yogi". I immediately saw the
strange markings on the underside and the lower right.
Magnification shows them in
far greater detail, but still leaves a bit to be desired. I used
blur and anti-shadow to extract the patterns from a black and white image
and put together the following image.

| Here is a close
up of the same rock from the super resolution picture. Notice the
complex convolutions and curving pathways over the surface of the stone?
There are also many
pockmarks and openings of the same approximate size. This is at
least dependent on the long-term presence of water to create this sort of
erosion. At the very least, large quantities of water had to
surround this rock for thousands of years to get this sort of weathering
effect.
But then it raises the
question- if water in that quantity was present for that period of time,
was life also present?
The fossils in Eagle Crater
answer that clearly enough, and the same fossils have been found (but not
yet resolved sufficiently by NASA) in Gusev. Pathfinder seems to
have found traces of life years earlier than either of the MER craft.
To help resolve the details
and perhaps answer a few questions, I converted this image to monochrome
and then performed contrast and differential processing. It was
hoped that this would provide a clearer view of the convolutions. |

| I live in Florida and have
been an avid snorkeler and dive enthusiast for decades. There is no
doubt in my mind that this is indeed coral. The patterns match brain
coral precisely.
If this is weathering, then it is
most unusual indeed. The features are so compelling and clear that I
would accept this easily as proof that Pathfinder and Sojourner had found
fossils on Mars back in 1997.
So why is this not accepted even
today? I am becoming rather skeptical of the ability of large
organizations to make rational decisions even when faced with such clear
evidence.
Why is it that the evidence of the
Martian meteorite ALH-84001 is discredited and ignored, when the markers
are clear enough? Why is this image not taken as serious evidence of
fossils on Mars?
I can understand the reluctance to
accept the results of the Viking experiments that were performed by Gil
Levin, searching for microbes. There was activity but they felt they
had a plausible chemical explanation. But in light of these
findings, I am forced to conclude that Levin was right back in 1976.
Viking did indeed find living bacteria. |

So now we have data from the two
Viking landers in 1976 that indicate biological activity, we have the Martian
meteorite ALH-84001 showing what appears to be fossilized bacteria, fine grained
magnetite (apparently from biological activity), globules of carbonate minerals
(apparently from water and biology), and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,
also apparently from biological processes). We also have
Pathfinder/Sojourner images showing spherules and what looks like coral from
1997. Now we have two landers finding what is clearly fossil remains.
In other words, we have five landers
and three rovers and a meteorite as evidence- all point to the same
conclusion. We seem to be making the same "discoveries" over and
over again. How much evidence is needed for somebody to finally admit that
we have found life on Mars? We have 28 years of evidence that all tell the
same story.
Here is a page detailing the
Sojourner Rover. Dimensions, details, and costs of the project are
listed.
Here is a page with all
Mars landers and rovers and their images. This page details the
Pathfinder mission. This is the Mars
Pathfinder Home page. All images are supposedly in this archive and
also are available on CD-ROM.
