Detailed View - MER-B Sol 014 Spherule

The original NASA/JPL image link is here

Description:  sea urchin fossil

Apparent size: 3.5 mm

Common features:  cleft at bottom and at right (2 o'clock position) identical to organism from Sol 028 and Sol 045.

Stacked frames:  3

Enhancement methods:

bright/contrast  difference

After bright/contrast, three frames were stacked and the differential process done.  The resulting image was contrast enhanced again.

Summary description of image contents:  an eroded but recognizable copy of the "peach cleft" organism from Sol 028.  It exhibits faintly the "armor plate" outlines and the two main clefts that the other organism shows.  Poor lighting makes the contrast bad but some features can be seen.  Notable is the outlining of the bottom cleft in a row of bumps and the faint ridge running down the center of the right cleft.  Features are more visible in the anaglyph view, where both eyes can process them.
